Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya was officially inaugurated on August 3, 2017. The Assamese Department was started in the same year. The Department is trying to focus on research in Assamese Language and Literature besides thematic curriculum. There are also plans to take effective measures in the field of Assamese language teaching. The Department has adopted Krishnaguru High School in Nasatra area and prepared a practical test scheme in this regard. The Department has already included values education in the curricula. Journalism, Lexicography, Bhakti Tattva and Sankaradeva Studies has been added as Value Added Courses. Students are being prepared to success in competitive Examinations like NET & SLET.
The first teacher of the Visvavidyalaya was appointed in the Assamese Department. Dr Madhurjyya Mondit Baruah joined the Department informally on August 1, 2017. He was officially appointed on August 14, 2017. Shri Khanin Talukdar joined the Department temporarily that year. Later, Shri Jahnabee Basumatary joined the Department on February 14, 2018 and Dr Gobinda Prasad Bhuyan on August 8, 2018.
The Department started Postgraduate Course in the 2017-2018 Academic Session. In 2020, the first PhD Programme was enrolled.
